What is Bursitis?
Irritation or Inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs/pads (bursae) that act as cushions in the joints.
Where Causes Bursitis? Bursitis occurs near joints that perform frequent repetitive motion. Overuse injuries can occur from household activities, sports, or work. Bursitis can also be cause by minor trauma on the area.
The most common locations for bursitis are in the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee
What are the Symptoms of Bursitis?
- Loss of Range of Motion
- Muscle Weakness due to pain
What is the Treatment for Bursitis?
Treatment typically involves resting the affected joint and protecting it from further trauma/injury, Avoiding activities that aggravate the problem, Ice, compression, and elevation to reduce pain and swelling.
Physical Therapy can be helpful in identifying the source of the bursitis. Physical therapists can also teach gentle stretches to help relax the muscle, body mechanics techniques, proper positioning, help adapt or modify work environments to make them ergonomically correct, recommend appropriate bracing, if needed, to help rest and/or protect the joint, maintain strength & tone in surrounding muscle, and help with pain reduction & management.
